SDEC whose predecessor was the Agricultural Machinery Company of China, Wusong manufactory was established in April 1947. The manufactory was engaged in making spares and supplying replacement for agricultural machinery and trial produced 5 Hp petrol engine.
After P.R.China was founded, the manufactory was renamed the Wusong Machinery Plant. It produced single-cylinder, horizontal, 750RPM, 12Hp diesel engine in batches and in 1951 trial produced FM110 serials marine diesel engines.
In Aug. 1953 SDEC was formally named Shanghai Diesel Engine Works, which began to design and manufacture diesel engine under the policy of ??independence and self-reliance??.
In Sept. 1958 series 6135 diesel engines which was the first engine designed and made in China were come into being in SDEC and opened a brilliant prospect in manufacturing medium-output, high-speed diesel engines in China.
In Dec. 1962 SDEC developed series 180 marine diesel engines with speed 2000RPM and output upper 1000Hp and contributed to strengthen China Navy.
In 1981 SDEC trial produced B6136 of the 2nd generation.

In 1998 SDEC cooperated with Austria AVL Research Institute, and developed series B6114 diesel engine successfully. The emission of B6114 diesel engine reaches Europe ??standard, and its technical index reaches advanced level in the 90s in the world.
D6114 manufactory has been just beginning to produce and will reach full production capacity in 2000. Meanwhile, G6135 diesel engine, C121 diesel engine of SDEC will put into production in large batches. Till then, the production capacity of SDEC will reach 60,000 diesel engines. B6114 diesel engine which reaches Europe ??emission standard and natural gas engines will also be put into market in batches. SDEC will open all avenues for people of talent, increase funds input, apply new-tech and develop engine advanced continuously. Our target: To build SDEC into the best engine manufactory in China and the top ranking in the world.
